Vertical Roller Mill for Talc – 3-Month Case Results from a 300,000 tpy Plant

In June 2026, a talc production line with an annual capacity of 300,000 tonnes was officially commissioned in central China after three months of continuous operation. The results surprised even the plant owner: grinding efficiency, product fineness, system energy consumption and equipment stability all met — and in several respects exceeded — the design targets.

The challenge: talc is soft, but notoriously hard to grind

Talc has a Mohs hardness of only 1, making it one of the softest minerals in nature. That may sound easy to grind — in fact, it is exactly the opposite. Because talc is so soft and slippery, the grinding rollers tend to slide over the material bed like a roller pressing on a bar of soap. Material slippage, an empty mill bed and sudden drops in output are the most common headaches at talc grinding plants.
The owner, a long-established talc producer, had been struggling with three problems: ageing grinding equipment that could not keep up with growing orders, rising electricity bills month after month, and constant anxiety over every environmental inspection.
