Slag formation is the one of the most important processes taking place inside the blast furnace and affecting its operation.

Slag is one of the most valuable secondary material resources. Blast furnace slag is used for making granulated slag (over 50%), road stones (17%), pumice (3%), slag wool of molten metal; high-aluminous clinkers and cast wares are manufactured on a small scale. Blast-furnace slag grinding line and blast-furnace slag drying line are used for produsing blast furnace slag.

On the whole, about 84% of blast furnace slag is processed nowadays. Some part of slag is still removing for disposals. Large areas of fertile lands are used for keeping and storing these disposals, much money goes to slag maintenance and transportation from the blast furnaces to disposals, environment is contaminated. Therefore, slag processing and its usage is an urgent problem for both ecology and agro-industry in the whole world.
